Porte signed with Trek-Segafredo in 2019 for two years. He began his professional career in 2010 with Team Saxo-Bank, and he immediately showed his Grand Tour potential, winning the best young rider’s jersey and finishing 7th overall at the Giro d’Italia.
In 2012, Porte joined Team Sky where he helped Bradley Wiggins and Chris Froome win the Tour de France, while misfortune and illness plagued his own Grand Tour chances.
By 2016, Porte joined BMC racing to finally focus on winning the Big One in July but again crashes hindered him, and 5th place in 2016 was his best result. While a big result in a Grand Tour has eluded him, Richie has won some of the biggest one-week stage races, including Paris Nice twice and the Tour de Suisse. In 2019, Richie’s race program will again be tailored toward reaching the Tour de France podium.
