This year, the 2019 UCI Road Cycling World Championships are being held in Yorkshire, Great Britain from September 22nd through 29th. Check out a full preview of the event here. The 2018 champion Alejandro Valverde is fresh off a second place finish in the Vuelta a Espana, and will look to defend his title. In honor of this epic, annual event Santini has produced a limited edition cycling kit capsule.
Santini designed three special-edition commemorative jerseys with iconic British elements and matching bib shorts to celebrate the return of the world championships to the United Kingdom for the first time in 37 years. Union Jack
The Union Jack cycling jersey, the first of three designs, presents a striking and bold statement that incorporates the rainbow stripes into a silhouette of the Union Jack flag. The front of the jersey features the outline of the Union Jack in an elegant navy blue with the World Champion colors at its center. The official 2019 World Championship logo features on the right side of the chest also. This classic-fit jersey has ultralight mesh fabric sides for maximum breathability. There is also a silicone gripper at the waist hem to stop it from riding up.
National Pride
The direct influence behind the design of the National Pride cycling jersey was based around the Y symbol, representing the word Yorkshire taken from the official logomark designed for the event. This was then integrated into the iconic five bands of the rainbow stripes design, using the traditional red, white and blue of the British national flag. The inside collar and back of the jersey also feature details from the flag. The slim-cut jersey is made from Kenobi and Ritmo Shangtun, both fabrics that guarantee superb breathability, stretch, and comfort.
Legacy
Third, the stylish Legacy cycling jersey was designed with a simple blue band across the chest, referencing the blue background of Yorkshire’s official crest. Santini then designed a subtle, stylized Yorkshire rose motif placed near the waist on the left side panel. This version of the Karma Evo cycling jersey has a classic fit for cyclists who either need or prefer a fuller and wider cut. The sizing runs smaller than traditional U.S. sizing. The jersey also features raw cut sleeves made in ultra-light Body Fit fabric adhere to you like a second skin. There is also a full-length frontal zipper and a triple back pocket.
Yorkshire Bib Shorts
Designed with a foundational navy blue color, the Yorkshire bib shorts will match each of the special edition cycling jerseys in the collection. At the knee of the right leg, are the UCI championship stripes along side an icon that denotes the Yorkshire event. On the opposite leg, Saninti’s logo in bold white letter stands out. The construction of the special edition Yorkshire bib shorts are based on the Scatto bib shorts, and made of Lycra blend Thunderbike fabric. This fabric provides light, graduated compression and excellent abrasion resistance.
The bibs have an anatomical cut with non-slip, elastic grippers on the legs. They also feature the new GITevo chamois pad with an Anti-Shock twist gel core for maximum comfort on 2-6 hour rides. The breathable spider mesh braces also host a discrete back pocket on the rear of the braces. Last, reflective details on the back offer improved visibility in low light conditions.
Yorkshire Gloves
To complete the kit, the Yorkshire gloves are short fingered summer gloves with sublimated graphics. The palm are of the gloves use foam padding and anti-slip fabric for extra control and comfort. Without a velcro closure, these gloves offer a sleek anatomical fit. A section of terry cloth on the thumb acts an excellent sweatband as well.
